All sorts o’ goodies goin’ on

Posted by: moedee on: September 30, 2004

Well, school has started and all sorts of nice things have been happening. I’ve begun my job as a mentor and it’s as awesome as I knew it would be. I have a wonderful faculty partner and there are great people in the class. My two classes are already rockin’ and I’m [...]

Peacebuilding

I’m watching the movie Redemption, about Stan “Tookie” Williams – the man who helped found the Crips and then later helped bring an end to the violence between the Crips and the Bloods. I had heard almost nothing about and what I had heard didn’t really sink in. I think this is going to become [...]

What am I doing?

Posted by: moedee on: September 26, 2004

I have been posting rather infrequently of late and what I have posted has been pretty devoid of either political or social issues. I have done this with specific intent – that intent being to keep myself in a more healthy frame of mind. I’m not sure if other people have this same issue but [...]

Differing views

I just had a discussion with my brother about a similar sort of topic – guns in general and the demise of the assault weapons ban. Here’s the email I wrote in response to some information he sent me:

I’m sitting here listening to the theme from “American Beauty” – it’s a lovely, somewhat mournful song. I’m blogsurfing (my latest fun sport) and just found this gentle little blog that is focused on the children in Iraq. A quickie

Posted by: moedee on: September 21, 2004

Mentor training is almost over and classes are almost begun. The weather is beautiful, I’ve been out a couple of times lately – met some nice guys – and have spent some time with school friends. I also just got a couple of new pics of my dear Victoria so all is good!

Information dump

I just crawled in from a weekend class – 20 hrs in 3 days – and my brain is feeling like a bag of smashed Fritos. The class was Nonviolence and Public Policy and even though I only sat in (no grade), it was pretty intense. Before moving to Portland and beginning school, I had [...]

Save me

For those of you who don’t know, I’m a mentor in Portland State’s University Studies program. I have a wonderful faculty partner (dwillia) and I’m eagerly looking forward to sitting in on the main class and facilitating mentor sessions. So why am I writing this post? What’s so exciting about my little [...]

Screaming with laughter!!!

I found this over at A Little Pregnant (in the comments) – thanks Lisa:
The Bush Clock
A man died and went to heaven. As he stood in front of St. Peter at the Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him. He asked, “What are all those clocks?”St. Peter answered, “Those are Lie-Clocks. [...]
